EAST TEXAS (KLTV) \u2014 More than 20 East Texas sports teams gathered for a media day event sponsored by Christus, giving players their first opportunity to speak publicly about new coaching staffs heading into the fall season.<\/p>\n
Whitehouse football brings in new head coach<\/p>\n
Whitehouse football is among the programs with new leadership. Following a 2-8 record last season, the team hired Brett Gilchrist, who previously served as an offensive line coach at Frisco Lone Star. Gilchrist averaged 47 points per game in 2025 and finished that season as state runner-up.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m excited about the challenge and the opportunity,\u201d Gilchrist said. \u201cI think we\u2019re gonna be better than a lot of people think.\u201d<\/p>\n
Players said the transition has been welcomed.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving a new coach has been kind of a blessing for us,\u201d said Xavier Dudle, an offensive lineman for Whitehouse. \u201cI feel like we haven\u2019t really had a coach that has the love for us like Coach Gilly has had for us. He\u2019s been making us strive to become a better team.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mineola, Brownsboro also see new faces<\/p>\n
At Mineola, new head coach Cody Moore has focused on reshaping the program\u2019s culture.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe changed our culture a lot,\u201d said Mineola center Grayson Dupont. \u201cWeightroom culture and the way we work out. The way we think about working out and how we wanna get better.\u201d<\/p>\n
Brownsboro is entering the season with new leadership in both volleyball and football. Players on the volleyball side said the new standard is already making an impact.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s wanting more from us than our last coach, but I think that\u2019s a really good thing,\u201d said libero Parmer Fitzgerald.<\/p>\n
\u201cCoach Pierce is already showing us so many new things that we didn\u2019t necessarily understand in previous years and just really growing on those things,\u201d said middle hitter Landy Everson. \u201cAnd I feel like we\u2019re already improving so much and it\u2019s just helping us overall.\u201d<\/p>\n
On the football side, Ryan Hood takes over as head coach. Players said they expect the change to push the program forward.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe got a lot of new coaches and so I think our program will be a lot better,\u201d said wide receiver Rolan Redic. \u201cWe can make a big difference this year.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going to have a winning mindset,\u201d said quarterback Lane Irwin.<\/p>\n
Westwood volleyball setter Lyla Huddleson said her team is also ready for the competition ahead.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want everybody coming after us, as hard as we\u2019re going after them,\u201d Huddleson said. \u201cBecause we\u2019re ready. For everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n
