Nazira Haji Zada\u2019s attorneys say the 47-year-old\u2019s due process is being violated.<\/p>\n<p>                Pexels<\/p>\n<p>An Afghan woman residing in Fort Worth has been arrested for her alleged role in plotting to commit a terrorist attack in 2024 and faces deportation from a federal court that existed only on paper for 30 years.<\/p>\n<p>Nazira Haji Zada, 47, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/department-justice-files-first-case-us-alien-terrorist-removal-court-deport-afghan-alien-who\">appeared before a federal judge<\/a> Thursday morning for her first hearing in the Alien Terrorist Removal Court, according to a Department of Justice news release. This is the first time the court \u2014 referred to by legal experts as a \u201czombie court\u201d \u2014 has been used since its <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fjc.gov\/history\/courts\/alien-terrorist-removal-court-1996-present\">creation by Congress<\/a> in 1996.<\/p>\n<p>This special court is located in Washington, D.C., and allows the government to use <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/shautsova.com\/2026\/07\/19\/alien-terrorist-removal-court-activated-for-the-first-time-in-u-s-history-what-every-noncitizen-needs-to-know\/\">classified information as evidence<\/a> to quickly deport noncitizens suspected of being terrorists. Evidence is usually required to be disclosed in traditional immigration court.<\/p>\n<p>Zada, a lawful permanent resident, is accused of supporting two family members who were planning to carry out an Islamic State-inspired mass shooting on Election Day 2024. The Department of Justice filed its application with the court to remove Zada on July 15, according to the release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a historic step asking this court for the first time to remove an individual from the United States who supported a plot by ISIS-sympathizing family members to commit an act of terrorism in America,\u201d said FBI Director Kash Patel in the release.<\/p>\n<p>Zada\u2019s son and son-in-law \u2014 Abdullah Haji Zada and Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi \u2014 were arrested Oct. 7, 2024, after <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/archives\/opa\/pr\/afghan-national-arrested-plotting-election-day-terrorist-attack-name-isis\">purchasing guns and ammunition<\/a> for a planned Election Day attack from an undercover FBI agent, authorities have said. Both men later pleaded guilty to terrorism charges in a federal courtroom in Oklahoma City.<\/p>\n<p>According to an unclassified summary of the case against Zada, the 47-year-old is accused of <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.atrc.uscourts.gov\/docs\/2026-TRC-1-Exhibit%20E%20-%20Unclassified%20Summary.pdf\">pledging allegiance to ISIS<\/a> and indoctrinating her children with ISIS ideology.<\/p>\n<p>Court documents allege that she signed a contract to sell the family\u2019s home to finance the planned attack, the news release states. The family also sold their two vehicles, furniture and personal electronics. According to the release, Zada was planning to return to Afghanistan with her other children right before the planned shooting.<\/p>\n<p>Zada\u2019s husband was employed at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan from 2009 through 2016, according to <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.atrc.uscourts.gov\/docs\/2026-TRC-1-Exhibit%20C%20-%20Unclassified%20ICE%20Declaration%20in%20Support%20of%20Application%20for%20Removal%20of%20Nazira%20Haji%20Zada%20-%20Redacted.pdf\">an unclassified declaration<\/a> from Immigration and Customs Enforcement filed in support of the application for Zada\u2019s removal.
