Former city councilman and two-time mayoral candidate Greg Brockhouse is back. <\/p>\n

Or his podcast is, anyway. <\/p>\n

Brockhouse last week announced on Facebook<\/a> that The Brockcast is returning and its first episode is scheduled to stream live on Thursday, Aug. 6. In the post, the SA politico said his podcast will \u201cdive into San Antonio politics, bad ideas, good ideas, taxpayer dollars, and whatever fresh chaos City Hall, Austin, and D.C. manage to create between now and then.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first installment of Brockhouse\u2019s resurrected talk show was originally scheduled to air this Thursday. However, Brockhouse told the Current he pushed back the start date so he could visit his son in Colorado.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s all these issues going on, and when I look at City Hall \u2026 there really is just a new level of dysfunction, and I think a disconnect from people in the community and the neighborhoods and a lack of knowledge of what\u2019s going on,\u201d Brockhouse told the Current during a Wednesday phone call.<\/p>\n

Brockhouse hopes his show will close that gap by inviting community figures from all parts of the political spectrum to share their point of view.<\/p>\n

Before diving into the podcasting world, Brockhouse served as District 6 City Councilman. He also ran twice against former Mayor Ron Nirenberg, forcing a runoff and losing by just 2 points in 2019 before getting trounced by 30 points in 2021.<\/p>\n

During the 2019 run, Brockhouse faced allegations that he\u2019d been involved in a domestic violence incident with his wife a decade earlier. The Express-News published the police report<\/a>, which mysteriously disappeared from SAPD\u2019s records system. Brockhouse and his wife, in a 2019 interview with the San Antonio Repor<\/a>t, disputed the police department\u2019s version of events.<\/p>\n

Since his 2021 mayoral defeat, Brockhouse has been largely quiet.<\/p>\n

Over the past year, though, Brockhouse has offered up political commentary on the Brockcast Facebook page<\/a>, which now has 16,000 followers. His weekly newsletter, Sunday\u2019s Opinion, has more than 500 subscribers, he told the Current.<\/p>\n

Brockhouse also plans to launch a website in the coming months that will host a blog, the podcast and other forms of media.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think now, more than ever, people want information,\u201d Brockhouse said. \u201cThey want to get engaged.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked if the podcast is a precursor to his return to local politics, he said anything is possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe elections are three years away,\u201d Brockhouse said. \u201cThat\u2019s an eternity. Things will change, the issues will change, the city will change. I\u2019m here doing this because I think we need to get under the hood, see what\u2019s going on, and help people understand what\u2019s going on.\u201d<\/p>\n
