CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 Residents in Calallen will soon have expanded access to emergency medical care as Corpus Christi Medical Center breaks ground on a new state-of-the-art emergency room.<\/p>\n
The new\u00a0ER 24\/7 Calallen will replace and expand the emergency services already offered on the campus, giving residents faster access to emergency care closer to home.<\/p>\n

David Irizarry, CEO of Corpus Christi Medical Center, said the project is about improving access for a growing part of Nueces County.<\/p>\n
“We’re very excited about creating more access and bringing a state-of-the-art emergency room to the Calallen region so people don’t have to drive into the city for every emergency,” Irizarry said. “They can get the care immediately\u00a0right\u00a0close to home.”<\/p>\n
The new facility will feature advanced CT imaging, updated laboratory equipment and other technology designed to improve emergency care. It will also include a helipad, allowing patients who need specialized treatment to be flown quickly to a higher level of care.<\/p>\n
“We’ll have a helipad here so that if anybody needs to be airlifted to a higher level of care, we can get that done as quickly as possible,” Irizarry said.<\/p>\n
Hospital leaders say the project is part of a larger investment in the Calallen community as the area continues to grow.<\/p>\n
Irizarry said the long-term goal is to redevelop the campus and expand medical services available to residents. “Our commitment to the community of Calallen is to continue to serve that purpose, expand services and ultimately redo this entire campus by adding more medical services to a community that greatly needs it,” he said.<\/p>\n
Construction is now underway.
