{"id":393545,"date":"2026-07-31T15:18:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-31T15:18:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/393545\/"},"modified":"2026-07-31T15:18:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-31T15:18:08","slug":"search-committee-named-to-find-next-west-texas-am-university-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/393545\/","title":{"rendered":"Search committee named to find next West Texas A&#038;M University president"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CANYON, Texas (KVII) \u2014 The Texas A&amp;M University System has named an 11-member committee to help lead a nationwide search for the next president of West Texas A&amp;M University.<\/p>\n<p>The system also retained <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parkersearch.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Parker Executive Search<\/a> to assist with recruiting and evaluating candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Regent Randy Brooks will chair the search advisory committee, which includes another regent, WT faculty, staff and student representatives and business and community leaders from the Texas Panhandle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur job is to find a president who understands that responsibility, respects the character of WT and has the experience and judgment to lead the university forward,\u201d Brooks said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The search follows <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7amarillo.com\/news\/local\/west-texas-am-president-dr-walter-wendler-retiring-in-september-wt-buffaloes-canyon-texas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">WT President Walter Wendler\u2019s announcement that he will retire Sept. 1<\/a> after 10 years leading the university.<\/p>\n<p>Neil Terry, WT\u2019s executive vice president and provost, will become interim president Sept. 1.
