EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says investigators seized nearly 120 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of $4 million during a targeted interdiction operation this week.<\/p>\n
According to the sheriff’s office, members of the Gang and Narcotics Unit conducted the operation on July 29 involving a commercial tractor-trailer as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.<\/p>\n
Investigators seized approximately 119.8 kilograms of cocaine, $7,000 in U.S. currency, and the tractor-trailer believed to have been used in connection with the suspected drug trafficking operation.<\/p>\n
Officials estimated the cocaine’s street value at approximately $4 million.<\/p>\n
The sheriff’s office said the seizure disrupted the movement of a large quantity of illegal narcotics and reflects the agency’s ongoing efforts to target drug trafficking organizations operating in and through the Borderland.<\/p>\n
“This significant seizure disrupted the movement of a large quantity of illegal narcotics and underscores the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office’s commitment to aggressively targeting drug trafficking organizations operating in and through our region,” the agency said in a news release.<\/p>\n
Authorities said the investigation remains active, and no additional details, including whether any arrests have been made, are being released at this time to protect the integrity of the case.<\/p>\n
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said it will continue working with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to identify, investigate, and dismantle criminal organizations operating in the region. <\/p>\n
