{"id":393948,"date":"2026-07-31T21:19:12","date_gmt":"2026-07-31T21:19:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/393948\/"},"modified":"2026-07-31T21:19:12","modified_gmt":"2026-07-31T21:19:12","slug":"university-of-maryland-pharmacy-instructor-detained-in-dallas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/393948\/","title":{"rendered":"University of Maryland pharmacy instructor detained in Dallas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>University of Maryland School of Pharmacy instructor detained at Dallas airport<\/p>\n<p>Berhanu Kibret was returning from conference after receiving &#8216;Teacher of the Year&#8217; award<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/b40942b3-1975-480d-94da-d02192138e8b_1645197540.file.png\" width=\"48\" height=\"48\" alt=\"Greg Ng\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>BALTIMORE \u2014<\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"0\">Federal officials detained an instructor from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy last week.<\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"1\">A University of Maryland, Baltimore representative told WBAL-TV 11 News that Dr. Berhanu Kibret was detained on July 21 by federal officials at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.<\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"2\">Kibret was returning from a meeting of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, where he received a &#8220;Teacher of the Year&#8221; award.<\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"3\">UMB said Kibret has a valid work authorization.<\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"4\">The university representative wrote in a statement sent to WBAL-TV 11 News, in part: &#8220;The university is greatly troubled by what has happened. Dr. Kibret is a highly valued member of the University of Maryland, Baltimore, community. He is an effective and beloved teacher, and a highly regarded colleague.
