{"id":394049,"date":"2026-07-31T22:34:25","date_gmt":"2026-07-31T22:34:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/394049\/"},"modified":"2026-07-31T22:34:25","modified_gmt":"2026-07-31T22:34:25","slug":"texas-tech-seeks-ag-decision-on-releasing-contract-details-with-galaxy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/394049\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas Tech seeks AG decision on releasing contract details with Galaxy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) &#8211; The Texas Tech University System is seeking the Texas Attorney General\u2019s opinion to determine what contract details can be released following the university\u2019s announcement of the renaming of its football stadium.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">On July 17, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcbd.com\/2026\/07\/17\/texas-tech-football-stadium-renamed-galaxy-stadium-15-year-deal\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.kcbd.com\/2026\/07\/17\/texas-tech-football-stadium-renamed-galaxy-stadium-15-year-deal\/\">Texas Tech Athletics announced a 15-year naming rights agreement with Galaxy<\/a>, rebranding the university\u2019s stadium as Galaxy Stadium. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">KCBD submitted an open records request on the same day of the announcement, July 17. KCBD received Texas Tech\u2019s response on July 31. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasattorneygeneral.gov\/open-government\/members-public\/overview-public-information-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.texasattorneygeneral.gov\/open-government\/members-public\/overview-public-information-act\">Texas Public Information Act<\/a> states a governmental body must either provide records requested, respond with a reasonable timeline to produce the records, or notify the requestor it is seeking an Attorney General\u2019s opinion on release of the records, within 10 days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Texas Tech is a public entity. Galaxy is a private company. Texas Tech\u2019s Office of General Counsel\u2019s letter states:<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThe requested document(s) may contain proprietary information belonging to a third party. Pursuant to Tex. Gov. Code \u00a7 552.305, TTUS may rely on the third party to establish that the requested information should be withheld under applicable exceptions intended to protect the third party\u2019s interests. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">TTUS will not release the requested documents until the Attorney General makes a decision regarding the public disclosure of the document(s). Please note, TTUS only posts a summary of the contract details pursuant to Texas Government Code section 2261.253, the entire contract is not publicly posted due to proprietary concerns. The required third-party notice is attached as Exhibit \u201cC\u201d.
