These laws created a legal distinction between high and low potency cannabis.<\/p>\n In both federal and state law, hemp was defined as cannabis with .3% delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis. Anything with more delta-9 THC is considered illegal marijuana.<\/p>\n Delta-9 can generally be considered \u201cregular THC.\u201d However, there are many forms of THC, the main psychoactive compound in cannabis that can impair users.<\/p>\n Other forms of THC like delta-8, which exploded in popularity in Texas and across the U.S., will be banned in the Lone Star State. Many shops that carry these THC products are calling it quits on the sales after Friday.<\/p>\n Products with such forms of THC as delta-8, delta-10 and THCP, will no longer be allowed, after the state added them to the list of controlled substances.<\/p>\n This comes after another move by Texas officials banned smokable hemp products such as THCA, part of a set of regulations that took effect in June and is the subject of a lawsuit filed by a hemp-industry group.<\/p>\n These new rules will only allow one form of THC: .3% delta-9 on a dry-weight basis. That limits the hemp market to edible products with varying THC potencies.<\/p>\n
