RICHMOND, Texas (KTRK) — Landen Williams-Callis, the best high school running back in Texas and one of the biggest football recruits in the nation, announced he is committing to play at the University of Texas next year.<\/p>\n
The announcement took place in Richmond on Saturday night, surrounded by friends and family.<\/p>\n
Williams-Callis narrowed his more than 70 offers to just five: the University of Houston, Texas A&M, Texas, SMU, and Missouri. In the end, he chose to become a Longhorn.<\/p>\n
Williams-Callis said he made the decision on Saturday morning, overwhelmed by the opportunities available to him.<\/p>\n
Williams-Callis has shot up the Texas high school all-time leading rushing list thanks to his 3,502 yards he ran last season, giving him 7,554 in his three years at Randle High School.<\/p>\n
He is just 3,828 yards from breaking Mount Pleasant’s Keagan Ash’s record of 11,382 yards. Williams-Callis said he is ready to break that record during his senior year at Randle.<\/p>\n
In his time at Randle, the Lions have an incredible 42-3 record and made state championship appearances the last two seasons.<\/p>\n
He ran for 102 yards and a touchdown in the Lions’ 2024 first-ever state championship win, earning the game MVP award after Randle upset South Oak Cliff 38-35.<\/p>\n
