Police said Aryana Trevino Martinez was reported missing shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday from the area of Allegheny Drive near Babcock Road.<\/p>\n

Authorities launched an extensive search involving law enforcement officers, helicopters and dozens of community volunteers. One volunteer, who asked not to be identified, described the frantic effort to locate the toddler.<\/p>\n
“We were desperate, just trying to find her, yelling her name the whole time,” the volunteer said. “You could hear people calling her name, ‘Aryana, Aryana.'”<\/p>\n
A nearby resident said she joined the search after hearing helicopters overhead.<\/p>\n
“I came out and there was, like it said, 100. I think there were more than 100 of us out here searching by car, bicycle, walking groups,” the neighbor said.<\/p>\n
Police posted a photo of Aryana on social media shortly after 10 p.m., and an AMBER Alert was issued around 10:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
Around midnight, authorities found the child unresponsive in a grassy area near Belle Ellen Drive and Babcock Road. She was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n
A resident near the scene said the mood changed as emergency crews departed.<\/p>\n
“That’s all we heard, but when the ambulance did leave, there were no sirens or anything,” the resident said. “They left quietly. It was really somber because it just seemed like something had gone wrong. Something was really wrong.”<\/p>\n
The AMBER Alert was canceled early Monday after authorities confirmed the child had been located.<\/p>\n
A volunteer who participated in the search said the child’s mother was overcome with grief.<\/p>\n
“The mama was just absolutely distraught,” the volunteer said. “Keep the family in your prayers because it was devastating. It was devastating for us as a community. I can’t even imagine what she and her family are going through.”<\/p>\n
Police have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. The investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n
