Neighbors joined the search Sunday night as families poured outside in the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverybody was already out looking. I went around asking people, \u2018Hey, let’s go look, come outside, and people started coming outside,\u2019\u201d said David Alcantar.<\/p>\n
As the search continued, Aryana was found unresponsive near a pond in the Belle Ellen area. Despite life-saving measures, she did not survive.<\/p>\n
Alcantar said the news hit especially hard because of his own family\u2019s experience.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy brother was four years old, I was six, and he was missing. They found him later, unfortunately. Now, it’s my job to to help people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Neighbors said they are struggling to understand how the toddler could have gotten so far.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe first thing I thought, like everybody else, how did she get out there? How’s a two-year-old get out that way? But children’s mind they can walk,\u201d Alcantar said.<\/p>\n
Another neighbor, Camille, said the case is a reminder of how quickly situations can turn and how closely many parents watch for alerts.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou hear stories all the time, and I think most moms in this day and age with social media we’re always on the lookout. I know I am scanning all the time,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
A detective at the scene told us that Aryana was found about 500 yards from where she disappeared, near a creek in the Belle Ellen area.<\/p>\n
Investigators at the scene said that she was found in a heavily vegetated area near the drainage creek, but had not been pulled from the water.<\/p>\n

Investigators at the scene did note that although the water in many areas is shallow, it does get deeper in some areas. Her cause of death, and whether or not the child drowned, remains unknown.<\/p>\n
Police said Aryana Martinez was reported missing around 8 p.m. from the 4700 block of Allegheny after relatives told officers she had wandered off. An AMBER Alert was later issued as officers and volunteers searched the area.<\/p>\n
After several hours of searching, Aryana was found unresponsive near a creek in the Belle Ellen area around midnight, according to police. Officers immediately began life-saving measures before she was rushed to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.<\/p>\n
Authorities have not released additional information about the circumstances surrounding Aryana’s disappearance, what led to her being found in the creek, or the cause of her death.<\/p>\n
Police said Aryana\u2019s family is cooperating. Investigators are still waiting for a cause of death, and police said the case remains an active and ongoing investigation.
