ROUND ROCK, Texas \u2014 A man is dead after a Round Rock police officer shot him during a domestic violence call early Tuesday. Two stabbing victims, a man and a woman, remain in critical condition, police said.<\/p>\n
Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks said officers responded around 1 a.m. to a reported stabbing at a home in the Round Rock Ranch neighborhood near Phoenix Way and Fort Grant Drive.<\/p>\n
According to police, a woman with multiple stab wounds escaped the home and ran to a neighbor’s house, where she called 911. She told dispatchers another person was still inside the home with her husband.<\/p>\n
When officers arrived, Banks said they heard a man inside the house calling for help. Officers forced their way into the home, where they encountered a man armed with a knife.<\/p>\n
“Once they kicked in the door, they encountered a male subject with a knife. One officer did discharge his firearm at the suspect with the knife,” Banks said.<\/p>\n
Police said the suspect was taken into custody and transported to a hospital, where he later died.<\/p>\n
Officers also found another injured man inside the home. He received medical aid before being taken to a hospital. Both that man and the woman remain in critical condition, according to police.<\/p>\n
“This is an absolute tragic event. Our hearts go out to the two victims. Our thoughts are with them,” Banks said.<\/p>\n
Police believe the incident was related to domestic violence. Authorities said there were no injuries to any officers.<\/p>\n
The officer who fired the shot has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure while the investigation continues.<\/p>\n
A large police presence remains in the area, with roads blocked near Phoenix Way and Fort Grant Drive as investigators process the scene.<\/p>\n
Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public.<\/p>\n
The Texas Rangers and the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office are assisting with the investigation, which remains in its early stages.
