EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 Texas Governor Greg Abbott will be in El Paso on Wednesday to discuss his initiative on a new affordability policy to help lower housing costs in Texas.<\/p>\n

Greg Abbott announced more than $114 million in housing tax credits aimed at expanding reduced-rent housing options statewide.<\/p>\n Abbott said the tax credits will help finance the development or rehabilitation of 70 rental properties across Texas, supporting the construction or rehabilitation of more than 4,400 affordable housing rental units.<\/p>\n The awards are administered by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs.<\/p>\n As our state grows, we must ensure that Texans have access to the affordable housing they need to thrive,\u201d Abbott said. \u201cOver $114 million in housing tax credits will put quality, affordable homes within reach for hardworking Texas families. In partnership with the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, we will build a more affordable and prosperous Texas for generations.<\/p>\n TDHCA Executive Director Bobby Wilkinson called the program \u201ca key tool for creating new developments and preserving affordable housing in our communities,\u201d adding, \u201cTDHCA is committed to bringing high-quality, affordable housing to Texas residents.\u201d<\/p>\n The governor\u2019s office said President Trump\u2019s One Big Beautiful Bill Act provided a 12% increase to the federal tax credit ceiling, which helped push TDHCA\u2019s allocation to the largest in the agency\u2019s history.<\/p>\n A list of 2026 application awards is available on the TDHCA website<\/a>.
