Work is underway on a new facility in McKinney that will be shared by nonprofits aiming to serve people in need across Collin County.<\/p>\n
What happened?<\/p>\n
Nonprofit officials and community leaders held a groundbreaking ceremony Aug. 4 for the Collin County NeighborHub<\/a>. The 40,000-square-foot facility will house several different nonprofits that serve people across Collin County.<\/p>\n The groundbreaking comes months after McKinney City Council members approved new zoning<\/a> for the project, which will be located near the corner of Redbud Boulevard and White Avenue. Nonprofit organization Catholic Charities Dallas<\/a> is leading the project as a managing partner.<\/p>\n Catholic Charities Dallas President and CEO David Woodyard<\/a> said the facility will make a \u201chuge difference\u201d for many people in the coming years. Construction is expected to last one year, and operations are expected to begin in summer 2027, he said.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is a place where tens of thousands will have their health care needs fulfilled [for] free,\u201d Woodyard said.<\/p>\n A closer look<\/p>\n Multiple nonprofits have already signed on to the project as founding partners, Woodyard said. Those include:<\/p>\n Mission ReganNeighbors Nourishing NeighborsOne Heart McKinneySanchez CharitiesSt. Vincent de Paul North TexasStreetside ShowersThe MedBridge<\/p>\n \u201cSo many more services are yet to come,\u201d Woodyard said. \u201cWe filled the first floor. The second floor is waiting for those to join us.\u201d<\/p>\n The facility will be able to accommodate up to 18 nonprofits in total, officials said.<\/p>\n Each partner will serve a distinct need and deliver wraparound support for every individual who visits the hub, according to its website<\/a>. Nonprofit partners will pay below-market rent for space within the hub.<\/p>\n The hub is projected to serve more than 12,000 individuals within the first year of opening and more than 28,600 individuals by the fifth year, according to its website.<\/p>\n \u201cThe NeighborHub represents greater access to hope, stability and the opportunity while providing resources that truly lift our community,\u201d Woodyard said.<\/p>\n To learn more about the project, visit www.neighborhub.net<\/a>.<\/p>\n Quote of note<\/p>\n George Fuller, chairperson of the McKinney Community Development Corp.<\/a>, said groundbreakings are \u201calways exciting because they represent progress.\u201d MCDC has invested $1.7 million in the project, according to its website<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cEvery once in a while there\u2019s a project that comes along that\u2019s measured not in size, square footage or dollars invested, but in lives that will be changed,\u201d Fuller said. \u201cToday is one of those great days.\u201d<\/p>\n The NeighborHub is the kind of project MCDC was created to support, he said, noting that the impact will reach McKinney and Collin County.<\/p>\n Officials are breaking ground on the project because of the vision of two people who Fuller recognized: Martin and Kim Sanchez, founders of the Sanchez Advisory Group and Sanchez Charities.
