{"id":399103,"date":"2026-08-06T08:14:14","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T08:14:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/399103\/"},"modified":"2026-08-06T08:14:14","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T08:14:14","slug":"beloved-market-square-gift-shop-los-pueblitos-closing-after-32-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/399103\/","title":{"rendered":"Beloved Market Square gift shop Los Pueblitos closing after 32 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After more than three decades at San Antonio\u2019s Historic Market Square, longtime gift shop Los\u00a0Pueblitos is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tpr.org\/arts-culture\/2026-07-27\/los-pueblitos-owner-reflects-on-32-years-at-market-square-before-closing\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">set to close<\/a> this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1994 by owner\u00a0Edali Hernandez, 72, Los Pueblitos became known for its selection of Talavera pottery, handcrafted jewelry, traditional Mexican folk art and clothing.<\/p>\n<p>For\u00a0Hernandez, the shop was more than a gift store. It was a way to honor her Mexican heritage while building a new life in San Antonio.<\/p>\n<p>Born and raised in Mexico City,\u00a0Hernandez moved to the United States on an L-1 visa with her husband and two daughters, bringing her business with her before opening Los Pueblitos at Historic Market Square.<\/p>\n<p>Hernandez\u00a0told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2026\/08\/01\/market-square-business-closes-after-30-years\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">KSAT 12 <\/a>\u00a0that growing concerns about crime prompted her family to leave Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were successful there, but we started feeling that the crime was coming,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years,\u00a0Hernandez said she built a loyal customer base by personally selecting the shop&#8217;s inventory.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have very good customers, and they love my merchandise,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Although\u00a0Hernandez is closing Los Pueblitos, she isn&#8217;t leaving retail entirely. She plans to continue her wholesale business while scaling back to spend more time with her family.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My life is going to be easier for me,&#8221;\u00a0Hernandez said. &#8220;I have two grandsons, and I want to enjoy more to go to the games &#8230; and I want to be more closer to them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Los\u00a0Pueblitos, 107 S. Concho St., will remain open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Sunday.
