Its tallest building would be a 19-story condominium tower reaching 240 feet.

Nearby residents have organized through a coalition called D13 Together, arguing that the tower is too tall for an area where current zoning limits building height to 54 feet. Opponents said they support development at the site but want the height reduced.

A developer’s proposal to build a 19-story high-rise in North Dallas is drawing strong opposition from neighbors who say it would dramatically change the Preston-Royal area. Because there are no existing high-rises in that part of the city, the project must first win approval from Dallas city planners before it can move forward. NBC 5’s Maria Guerrero explains the proposal, the concerns from residents and what’s next in the approval process.

Developer Leland Burk said the development team responded to community concerns by lowering the project’s maximum height by 85 feet.

“We appreciate the many supporters who shared their enthusiasm for this quality development, and we look forward to presenting our case to the Dallas Plan Commission on Thursday,” Burk said.

Since the project is advancing, it now requires a vote by the Dallas City Council.
