SAN ANTONIO – Gunfire erupted outside San Antonio City Councilmember Jalen McKee-Rodriguez\u2019s eastside field office earlier Thursday after an altercation nearby, prompting a response from police and first responders, according to the councilmember.<\/p>\n
\u201cEarlier today, a shooting occurred outside my eastside field office following an altercation nearby,\u201d McKee-Rodriguez said in a statement released Aug. 6, 2026.<\/p>\n
McKee-Rodriguez said no staff members, office visitors, or children affected by the incident suffered serious injuries. He added that \u201cthe individual who was grazed by gunfire\u201d was among those impacted.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am deeply grateful that no members of my staff, visitors to our office, or the children impacted by the incident suffered serious injuries,\u201d he said. \u201cMy thoughts are with everyone affected, including the individual who was grazed by gunfire, and am thankful for the swift response of the San Antonio Police Department and first responders.\u201d<\/p>\n
McKee-Rodriguez said the office plans to review and strengthen security measures at the field office. He also said staff members who witnessed the incident will be given time off.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe safety of our team and everyone who visits our office is my highest priority,\u201d he said. \u201cWe will be reviewing and strengthening security measures at our field office, and team members who witnessed today\u2019s events will have tomorrow off, at minimum, while we connect them with the resources and support they need.\u201d<\/p>\n
In his statement, McKee-Rodriguez called the incident a reminder to invest in strategies aimed at preventing violence.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis incident is also a painful reminder that public safety requires more than reacting after violence occurs,\u201d he said. \u201cWe must continue investing in violence interruption, mental health services, youth opportunities, conflict resolution, and other proven strategies that address the root causes of violence while ensuring our first responders have the tools they need to keep our community safe.\u201d<\/p>\n
McKee-Rodriguez said his office will continue working with law enforcement as the investigation continues.<\/p>\n
