Mary Janeway Grace Ponte, 91, passed away on Aug. 5, 2026. Mary was born on Aug. 23, 1934, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Grace Abel Janeway and James F. Janeway. She moved to Fort Worth while attending junior high school. In 1952, Mary married Clyde Blundell, and together they welcomed three children: Angela, Maria, and James. The family experienced a heartbreaking loss in 1979 when their daughter, Maria, passed away at the age of 15 following a head injury sustained on her high school campus. After living in Henderson, Texas, for six years, the family returned to Dallas, where they raised their children. When James started school, Mary began her career as a bookkeeper for the Medical Library at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, long before electronic bookkeeping systems became commonplace. Throughout her career, she worked in full-charge bookkeeping and real estate before retiring after 19 years with American Airlines. In 1981, while working at American Airlines, Mary married Mike Ponte. Their blended family included Mike\u2019s daughters, Leslie Ponte and Jamie Burns, along with their families. Following her retirement, Mary enjoyed helping Mike with maintaining a lovely yard and flowers. Her grandmother, Etta Janeway, who passed at 83, was an inspiration to Mary. Even at her age, Etta enjoyed maintaining her home and building a low level picket fence.
