Fort Worth<\/p>\n

A new Western starring a familiar Fort Worth face will premiere in North Texas this fall.<\/p>\n

Deadline reported Tuesday<\/a> that \u201cLast Train to Fortune\u201d will hit Dallas theaters on Sept. 23. The film will first premiere in New York on Sept. 18, followed by Dallas and then Los Angeles on Sept. 25, with plans to expand the theatrical rollout in other markets throughout the fall.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast Train to Fortune\u201d<\/a> stars Malcolm McDowell and James Paxton<\/a>, son of Fort Worth native Bill Paxton, who died in 2017.<\/p>\n

The film \u201cfollows Cecil Peachtree (McDowell), a schoolteacher, and Dooley (Paxton), an outlaw, as they strike a deal and develop an odd friendship along the road to Fortune after having to deal with gunfights, jailbreaks and saloon gals on the way,\u201d according to the logline.<\/p>\n

James Paxton\u2019s new film sets release<\/p>\n

Paxton is stepping into a role his father was supposed to play back in the 1990s in an earlier iteration of the project. In fact, the young actor and his father have circled similar roles before.<\/p>\n

In Marvel\u2019s \u201cAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D,\u201d Paxton played a younger version of his dad\u2019s character \u201cJohn Garrett.\u201d Paxton had a small role in 2024\u2019s \u201cTwisters,\u201d<\/a> a legacy sequel to the 1996 original that starred his father.<\/p>\n

The father and son also appeared together in 2003\u2019s \u201cSpy Kids 3: Game Over,\u201d the 2015 miniseries \u201cTexas Rising\u201d and in an episode of \u201cTraining Day,\u201d one of the last projects the elder Paxton appeared in before his death. The young Paxton also appeared in his father\u2019s second directorial effort, \u201cThe Greatest Game Ever Played.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paxton, 32, has been acting since the mid-2010s, appearing in films like \u201cVelvet Buzzsaw,\u201d \u201cLow Tide\u201d and \u201cThe Fanatic.\u201d<\/p>\n

He is also a musician, performing with his band \u201cSoundaze\u201d and solo project \u201cLove Pax.\u201d Earlier this year, Paxton released new music through both creative entities.<\/p>\n

With his father being from Fort Worth, Paxton, who was born in California, has visited Cowtown over the years.<\/p>\n

Some of those visits included stops at the Lone Star Film Festival<\/a>, which was created by Paxton\u2019s father and local film advocate Johnny Langdon. A look back at the Star-Telegram\u2019s archives shows a young Paxton with his father at the festival.<\/p>\n
