Concordia Cemetery is home to so many souls, but the truth is that without one particular historical figure, this cemetery may never have come to exist. The First Lady of Concordia was the first person buried on the original chapel that would eventually become Concordia Cemetery. And Grizz from KISS FM is your guest historian to tell the tale.<\/p>\n

If you follow the Concordia Heritage Association social media pages you know that they have been doing this cool new video series documenting the interesting people at the cemetery. Some of the bodies laid to rest at Concordia have been some of the most important people in the history of the Southwest.<\/p>\n

Concordia created the series ‘Stories From The Stones’ where they bring in historians and guest historians alike to tell the tales of the souls housed within the walls of the cemetery.<\/p>\n

Whether its gunslingers and outlaws or soldiers and heroes. Concordia is home to the end of so many different lives. One of the most important, both to El Paso’s history and to the history of the cemetery itself is Juana Maria Ascarate Stephenson.<\/p>\n

Juana’s death ultimately wound up leading to the creation of the southwests most legendary cemetery.<\/p>\n

The Concordia Heritage Association asked me to team up with them and I could not say no! To have the honor of telling the story of such an important figure was something I jumped to immediately. I grabbed my trusty Director of Photography, Alicia Garcia, and we got to work trying to do justice telling the story of The First Lady of Concordia.<\/p>\n

Thomas P. Moad: 1st El Paso Officer Killed In The Line Of Duty<\/p>\n

Thomas P. Moad was the first officer killed in the line of duty in the city of El Paso. For years, his misspelled name sat on a dusty plaque until retired officer Harry Kirk shared his story with the world. Now, 140 years later, Moad was given a dedicated monument at Concordia Cemetery and was even bestowed the honor of an official Texas Ranger Cross for his service with The Rangers before officially serving the city of El Paso. <\/p>\n
