LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio (WCHS) \u2014 A Texas man was sentenced to decades in prison Friday for drug possession, prosecutors said.<\/p>\n
Markus A. Davis Jr., 33, of Austin was sentenced to 28-33.5 years in prison, according to a social media post from the Lawrence County Prosecutor.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors said South Point Police Department officers attempt to stop a vehicle for an equipment violation on Jan. 5, but the driver, later identified as Davis, took off and fled from police at a high rate of speed, driving through yards before crashing through a fence and hitting a parked box truck.<\/p>\n
According to the post, law enforcement found and later recovered nearly four pounds of methamphetamine and around one ounce of fentanyl from the pursuit, as they said the drugs were thrown from the vehicle. After crashing his vehicle, prosecutors said Davis fled on foot but was taken into custody by the pursuing officers.<\/p>\n
On July 14, after a two-day trial, Davis was found guilty on all of the following counts, according to prosecutors:<\/p>\n
Tampering with evidence<\/p>\n
Failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officerAggravated trafficking in drugsAggravated possession of drugsTrafficking in a fentanyl-related compoundPossession of a fentanyl-related compound<\/p>\n
