They did not, prompting many a “When do y’all open back up?” on Instagram and Reddit. There’s currently a “For Lease” sign at 317 S Second Avenue in Deep Ellum, a broken homepage, and radio silence on social media. The property owner is still listed as Spanky Branch LLC, which has owned the space since 2019, when it was home to Sandbar Cantina. But I received an “undeliverable” notification when I emailed Goodsurf’s community engagement manager.

Sad! I can’t claim to have been a Goodsurf regular, but I really enjoyed the few times I visited. It was one of those rare places that was equally fun for kids to hang out while parents had a happy hour. I’m in one mom group chat that feels like it’s been trying to coordinate a Goodsurf outing for over a year—guess we’ll have to let that dream go.

D CEO wrote about Goodsurf’s ambitions before it opened in 2024 (there were plans to expand to “upwards of 25 venues by 2030”). The spot shared a former exec with TopGolf (Goodsurf’s co-founder, Zach Shor) and even a debt partner in EPR Properties, which had committed “$100 million for future projects on a deal by deal basis”. Per LinkedIn, Shor founded a real estate and hospitality consulting group in October 2025, just before Goodsurf went dark for good. (We’ve reached out to Shor for insight into the closure, and will update this post with any comment.)

It’s hard out there for a massive entertainment venture in North Texas.

What happened to Goodsurf Beach Club?
