EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 El Paso police say two East El Paso men were killed in a high-speed crash on I-10 early Saturday morning, after a car traveling in the shoulder struck a vehicle stopped for a tire change.<\/p>\n

The El Paso Police Department responded to the two-vehicle crash at 1:42 a.m. on Saturday on I-10 East near Copia. <\/p>\n

The police department’s Special Traffic Investigations Unit was called out to take over the investigation.<\/p>\n

Police said preliminary information indicates a white 2014 Hyundai Accent was traveling east in the left lane when it veered right, crossing all lanes into the emergency shoulder. <\/p>\n

The Hyundai continued eastbound at a high rate of speed in the shoulder until it struck the rear of a 2021 Mazda 3. <\/p>\n

At the time of the crash, the Mazda was stopped on the shoulder while the driver, 31-year-old Omar Rene Botello, was attempting to change a tire. <\/p>\n

Botello died at the scene, police said.<\/p>\n

The Hyundai\u2019s driver, 27-year-old Michael Isaiah Sepulveda, was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to police. <\/p>\n

Both men were identified as East El Paso residents.<\/p>\n

Police said speed and alcohol may be contributing factors in the collision.<\/p>\n
