SAN ANTONIO – A South Texas congressman is calling for the release of a father and his 9-year-old daughter after what he described as their detention following a traffic stop by Texas Department of Public Safety troopers.<\/p>\n
In a post on X, U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, said Texas DPS pulled over Jes\u00fas Bracho as he was arriving to work. Castro said that when Bracho was stopped, he told his 9-year-old daughter, Katherine, to go inside his boss\u2019 house.<\/p>\n
Castro said DPS called Immigration and Customs Enforcement and took Jes\u00fas. He said ICE agents later returned and \u201cthen forced him to lure his daughter out so they could take her too,\u201d adding that \u201cshe was scared and didn\u2019t know where she was going.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Castro, Katherine is a student at Bonnie Ellison Elementary. He described Jes\u00fas as \u201ca hardworking mechanic\u201d and said he \u201cdoesn\u2019t have a criminal record.\u201d<\/p>\n
Castro said Jes\u00fas and Katherine \u201chave been locked up at the Dilley Trailer Prison for over a month.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cGovernor Abbott has ordered DPS troopers to help ICE arrest hardworking folks and children in our community,\u201d Castro wrote.<\/p>\n
