Dallas ISD said Friday that Jones remains in stable condition as he begins his recovery. The district also thanked the community for the outpouring of support for the officer and his family.<\/p>\n

The shooting happened around 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at Sam’s Club in the 4100 block of I-635 near Midway Road. Sources tell WFAA that Jones was flagged down by a friend of the suspect saying the suspect needed help and might be suicidal. That’s when Jones put the suspect in his squad car and drove him to the Sam’s Club and Walmart parking lot. There was some sort of struggle, and the suspect shot Jones, sources say.<\/p>\n
Jones was shot at least once and was taken to Parkland, where he underwent surgery. He has been with the Dallas ISD Police Department for 16 years, officials said.<\/p>\n

“Please continue to keep Officer Jones, his family, and his fellow officers in your thoughts and hearts as he heals,” Dallas ISD said in a statement. “Their commitment to serving others is something we will never take for granted.”<\/p>\n
Other officers responded to the scene shortly after the shooting and took life-saving measures, according to Dallas ISD police.<\/p>\n
