AUSTIN, Texas \u2014 Many reservoirs are used for water storage, which supplies water to millions of Texans. After major flooding in July, some Texas reservoirs have rebounded dramatically, which is good news for water experts.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was unusual for us two years in a row to see significant rainfall in July, which traditionally has been one of our drier months,\u201d said John Hoffman, executive vice president for water at the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA).\u00a0<\/p>\n
Lake Travis is one of two water supply reservoirs in the Highland Lakes system. The lake fluctuates, capturing water during rainy periods to provide a water supply for Central Texas during drier times, according to the LCRA.<\/p>\n
Compared to July 2025, Lake Travis has approximately 10% more water storage than one year ago, according to Water Data for Texas. The lake is currently at approximately 100% capacity.\u00a0<\/p>\n
North of San Antonio, Canyon Lake is 100% full, up nearly 32% since this time last year. Lake Corpus Christi rose approximately 18% as well. Those are just a few lakes in Central and South Texas that have filled with water.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe expect…unless we see more rainfall, that our reservoirs will begin to gradually decrease,\u201d said Hoffman.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Despite all the water that helped Central Texas reservoirs and areas in South Texas, experts still want Texans to conserve where they can.<\/p>\n
