{"id":402755,"date":"2026-08-10T18:08:10","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T18:08:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/402755\/"},"modified":"2026-08-10T18:08:10","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T18:08:10","slug":"boom-heard-as-far-as-frisco-planos-former-eds-headquarters-comes-down-for-att","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/402755\/","title":{"rendered":"Boom Heard As Far As Frisco: Plano\u2019s Former EDS Headquarters Comes Down For AT&#038;T"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-start=\"78\" data-end=\"238\">A Plano landmark came down Sunday morning as crews demolished the former Electronic Data Systems headquarters in a controlled implosion.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"240\" data-end=\"404\">The demolition <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/texas\/news\/eds-campus-plano-imploded-att-headquarters\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">clears<\/a> the way for AT&amp;T to develop a new corporate campus on the property near <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/search\/electronic+data+systems\/@33.0780519,-96.8212503,16z?entry=ttu&amp;g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDgwNS4xIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Legacy Drive and Parkwood Boulevard<\/a>, just east of The Shops at Legacy.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"443\" data-end=\"626\">The main building of the former EDS campus was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/v\/1MJySPLTtL\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">demolished<\/a> at about 8 a.m. on Sunday. The implosion sent a large cloud of dust and debris into the air as the longtime structure collapsed.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"628\" data-end=\"787\">The city had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/news\/local\/collin-county\/demolition-plano-roads-closed-esd-campus-att\/287-5801e189-9b54-4a09-a7c5-e3d6b15af86f\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">warned<\/a> nearby residents and businesses to expect a loud boom, brief ground vibrations and temporary road closures surrounding the demolition site.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"789\" data-end=\"1034\">A city spokesperson said residents who heard the implosion or felt the vibration did not need to call 911 because the demolition was planned. Police, fire-rescue personnel and other city officials were stationed at the site during the operation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1036\" data-end=\"1202\">The sound was reportedly heard in areas well beyond the immediate vicinity, with some residents on social media saying they heard the boom from as far away as Frisco.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1244\" data-end=\"1316\">The property has a significant place in North Texas\u2019 technology history.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1318\" data-end=\"1504\">Technology executive and former presidential candidate Ross Perot purchased the site in the 1980s. Electronic Data Systems, the company he founded, opened its headquarters there in 1992.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1506\" data-end=\"1651\">EDS became one of the region\u2019s prominent technology companies and helped establish the Legacy area as an important corporate and business center.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1686\" data-end=\"1814\">The demolition <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox4news.com\/news\/historic-eds-building-plano-be-demolished-sunday-morning-implosion\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">represents<\/a> a major step toward redevelopment of the property, which AT&amp;T plans to use for a new corporate campus.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1816\" data-end=\"2000\">The future development will add to the concentration of major corporate offices in the Legacy area, which has undergone substantial commercial and residential growth in recent decades.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2002\" data-end=\"2228\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">The former EDS headquarters had stood as a prominent landmark in Plano for decades.
