Houston police responded to a report of a body floating in Brays Bayou in southeast Houston Monday morning, according to the department.<\/p>\n
Police responded around 10:15 a.m., Sgt. Stephen Jimenez said. A person was dead at the scene near the 6100 block of Gulf Freeway when police arrived, according to\u00a0Jimenez.<\/p>\n
The cause of the death and the victim’s identity were not yet available.<\/p>\n
Leonel Gonzalez Jr., a homeless man who lives in the area, said he found the body lying face down when another individual called attention to it in the water. He said he helped recover the body along the bayou’s banks and dialed 911.<\/p>\n
“I’m kind of traumatized,” he said. “It’s not something I’ve seen ever in my life.”<\/p>\n
He said hopes local law enforcement will keep working to address the issue.<\/p>\n
