{"id":402905,"date":"2026-08-10T21:18:17","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T21:18:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/402905\/"},"modified":"2026-08-10T21:18:17","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T21:18:17","slug":"governor-abbott-holds-inaugural-texas-classroom-commission-meeting-at-governors-mansion-office-of-the-texas-governor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/402905\/","title":{"rendered":"Governor Abbott Holds Inaugural Texas Classroom Commission Meeting At Governor\u2019s Mansion | Office of the Texas Governor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"meta\">August 10, 2026 | Austin, Texas<br \/>\n      |<\/p>\n<p>          <a href=\"https:\/\/gov.texas.gov\/news\/category\/press-release\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Press Release<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Issues Charges to Make Texas #1 Educating Students\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Governor Greg Abbott today held the inaugural meeting of the Texas Classroom Commission at the Governor\u2019s Mansion and discussed the Commission\u2019s mission to strengthen student achievement, support Texas educators, and ensure Texas becomes the No.1 state for educating our children.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmong the number one rankings we have in our state, it&#8217;s time to add another: Texas must rank number one in educating our children,\u201d said Governor Abbott. \u201cThe goal now is to ensure enduring progress toward making Texas the best state in America for educating our kids, and the Texas Classroom Commission will chart that path.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to ensure the teacher perspective had a meaningful place in the decision-making process, and I am honored to lead this Commission and help educators engage in and influence education policy,\u201d said Commission Chair Courtney Boswell MacDonald. \u201cI have immense respect for our teachers and the profound impact they have on more than 5 million students across Texas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, Governor Abbott requested the Commission focus on three key charges: improving student proficiency in math and reading, limiting screentime in classrooms, and identifying additional strategies to attract and retain high-quality teachers.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission will also examine ways to better equip parents to support their children\u2019s academic progress and reduce unnecessary administrative burdens so teachers can spend more time focused on classroom\u00a0instruction.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year,\u00a0Governor Abbott <a data-outlook-id=\"685efc82-4e8e-4412-8d45-9afbb882b6fa\" href=\"https:\/\/links-1.govdelivery.com\/CL0\/https:%2F%2Fgov.texas.gov%2Fnews%2Fpost%2Fgovernor-abbott-announces-texas-classroom-commission-membership\/1\/0100019fed5d08b8-f8474dbd-a235-4ca3-8b59-79e38e3d17e4-000000\/uGayjuNWNYP1crRQswHEgDhWmXKYn6hyTXn8L-9yGwE=452\" title=\"Original URL:&#010;https:\/\/gov.texas.gov\/news\/post\/governor-abbott-announces-texas-classroom-commission-membership&#010;&#010;Click to follow link.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a> the 22-member Texas Classroom Commission to put educators at the center of shaping the future of public education in Texas.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission will meet regularly and produce a report with legislative recommendations for the 90th Texas Legislative Session.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Commission is chaired by Courtney Boswell MacDonald of Kerrville.
