Now 25 years later, the Texas Department of Transportation is ready to end that streak.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Since the last fatality-free day on Texas roads, there have been over 91,000 traffic deaths in the state.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"669\" height=\"719\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/2014b303a312de08437b7d8f5523831c.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIt\u2019s devastating thinking of all the families and communities that have lost loved ones in the last 25 years,\u201d TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams said. \u201cIt\u2019s time to end this deadly streak, but it\u2019ll take all of us to do it. We can engineer improvements. Law enforcement can patrol roads. And everyone needs to drive like a Texan: kind, courteous and safe, to prevent crashes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">TxDOT and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) are working together to share safe driving messages. During traffic stops for the next two weeks, DPS troopers will hand out a tip card listing safe driving behaviors that reflect the top causes of crashes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
