HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The 2026 Pride Houston 365 Parade<\/a>, now in its 48th year, returns this weekend after being rescheduled, but organizers say you can expect the same safe and united celebration.<\/p>\n

The annual event is normally held during June to align with Pride Month, but severe weather led organizers to push the event back<\/a> to this Saturday.<\/p>\n

If you’re heading downtown to enjoy the festivities in person, we have a handy guide of what to know before you go.<\/p>\n

The parade will start at Smith and Lamar Streets, winding through downtown Houston to end at Milam and Pease.<\/p>\n

Yes. If you’ll be in the downtown area this weekend, you’ll want to plan ahead for the following closures, including a few that begin Friday.<\/p>\n

Friday August 14, 2026 (Parade VIP Setup)<\/p>\n

– McKinney from Bagby to Louisiana (all lanes) at 7 p.m. (Smith remains open for south bound traffic until Saturday at 6 p.m.) (Grandstands will start to be built on McKinney Friday night)<\/p>\n

– Walker from Bagby to Smith (all lanes) at 7 p.m. (building out Parade Biergarten fencing) Reopens Saturday midnight<\/p>\n

Saturday August 15, 2026<\/p>\n

– Smith from Rusk to Dallas (all lanes) 4 p.m. \u2013 11 p.m.<\/p>\n

– Lamar from Bagby to Smith (all lanes) at 6 p.m. \u2013 11 p.m.<\/p>\n

– Bagby from McKinney to Dallas (all lanes) 4 p.m. \u2013 11 p.m.<\/p>\n

– Bagby from Walker to McKinney (southbound)<\/p>\n

– Milam from Rusk to Pease (all lanes) 6 p.m. \u2013 11 p.m.<\/p>\n

– Pease from Milam to Smith (all lanes) at Travis for disbanding 6 p.m. \u2013 11 p.m.<\/p>\n

– Outbound Allen Parkway from Bagby to Montrose (all lanes) 2 p.m. – 11 p.m. (staging)<\/p>\n

– Walker from Smith to Milam (all lanes) 6 p.m.<\/p>\n

– Smith from Lamar to Dallas (2 east lanes) from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. (dignitary lineup)<\/p>\n

– Inbound Allen Parkway from Taft to Bagby\/Dallas will close all lanes at 4:45 p.m. (parade route will close at 6 p.m.) and will start re-opening at 9 p.m. as the parade moves forward<\/p>\n

What are organizers doing to ensure that paradegoers stay safe in the heat?<\/p>\n

While the parade starts after 5 p.m., we know that the heat can linger far into the night. As a result, organizers say that attendees can expect water stations and water drops along the parade and stage route. They also said electrolytes will be available to help paradegoers replenish.<\/p>\n

Additionally, you can expect cooling and misting fan areas, including along the route, and a cocktail garden with cooling fans.<\/p>\n

People are also encouraged to hydrate before they arrive, wear lightweight clothing, and take breaks in shaded\/cool areas.<\/p>\n

What kinds of safety precautions are being taken?<\/p>\n

Pride says law enforcement is expected to be present along the parade route, around the staging areas, and at street closures. It’s recommended that attendees plan their route and pick a meeting spot in the event they get separated from family and friends if they plan to enjoy the parade with a group.<\/p>\n

What should I expect at this year’s event?<\/p>\n

More than 80 organizations, floats, and entities are expected to join this year’s lineup.<\/p>\n

The official parade theme for 2026 is “Limitless,” which represents expansion, elevation, and breaking boundaries across community, culture, and impact, according to organizers.<\/p>\n

Also, be sure to give a wave to Pride’s grand marshals<\/a>, who will finally get to make their parade appearance on the route. The grand marshals were revealed at an event in May, honoring a range of community members and causes.<\/p>\n

What is the history of Pride in Houston?<\/p>\n

The first Houston Gay Pride Parade took place in 1979, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the raid on New York’s Stonewall Inn.<\/p>\n

The event is hosted annually by the volunteer-led, non-profit Pride Houston 365<\/a>, who hosts events year-round.<\/p>\n

The 2025 parade was attended by an estimated 200,000 people, according to organizers.<\/p>\n

The non-profit also says Houston’s festival and parade are the largest Pride celebration in the South.<\/p>\n
