Retirement doesn\u2019t have to mean retiring from learning.<\/p>\n

A new program at The University of Texas at Arlington is creating opportunities for adults 55 and older to learn, stay active, explore new interests and build connections with others through Golden Mavs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The membership-based program, offered through UTA\u2019s Extended Campus, brings together lifelong learners in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Courses cover a wide range of interests, including health and wellness, technology, history, literature, creative writing, cooking, travel and hobbies.<\/p>\n

\u201cLearning never stops,\u201d said Dr. Brandie Green, Executive Director of Programming. \u201cIt helps keep your mobility going. It helps keep your intellect going. But then it also builds those friendships and connections.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fall courses<\/a> include topics such as healthy aging, smartphone basics, social media, financial scam awareness, fall prevention, creative writing, bird watching, nutrition and travel planning.<\/p>\n

Golden Mavs courses are led by volunteers who bring their own knowledge, professional experience and personal interests to the classroom.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou will never, ever regret trying to teach a course on a topic that you love,\u201d said Darcy Brignac, Director of EEC Administration at UTA.<\/p>\n

Golden Mavs classes begin Sept. 14 and continue throughout the fall semester, with new courses, events and activities planned for the spring 2027.<\/p>\n

Membership is $175 per semester and includes access to all Golden Mavs courses, events and community activities.<\/p>\n

\u201cCuriosity doesn\u2019t have an age limit,\u201d Brignac said. \u201cYou have more time to invest in yourself and your interests.\u201d<\/p>\n
