The Japan-America Society is aiming for their biggest Otsukimi festival yet, bringing the 27th year of the free festival to Haggard Park. <\/p>\n

Downtown Plano will be the home of the Otsukimi Japanese Moon Viewing Festival<\/a> next month, hosted by the Japan-America Society of Dallas\/Fort Worth.<\/p>\n

The free festival celebrates the harvest moon, a tradition introduced to Japan by China during the Heian period, according to a press release.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Plano festival will feature taiko drumming, sumo wrestling demonstrations, live music, traditional dance and martial arts demonstrations, hands-on cultural activities, anime and Japanese pop culture experiences, children\u2019s games and food.<\/p>\n

The Japan<\/a>-America Society of Dallas\/Fort Worth, based in Plano, was originally founded in Dallas in 1970 before expanding across North Texas. Last year\u2019s celebration brought an estimated 6,000 people to Haggard Park.<\/p>\n
