KHOU 11<\/a> reported.\u00a0<\/p>\nA Texas family\u2019s pet goose sprung into action after noticing the backyard barn was engulfed in flames last Tuesday. KHOU 11<\/p>\n
Owner Bert Gerber had fallen asleep on the couch in the middle of the night when Goosey let out several startling honks that the family had never heard before.<\/p>\n
To his owner\u2019s surprise, Goosey was sounding the alarm as a barn full of animals on the family\u2019s Fort Bend County property was engulfed in flames. <\/p>\n
Goosey had only been a part of the Gerber family since Mother\u2019s Day. KHOU 11<\/p>\n
Shocking surveillance footage shows the honking hero standing in front of the backyard barn ablaze. <\/p>\n
\u201cI just casually came outside and I saw a fire billowing out of there,\u201d Bert recalled. \u201cI grabbed a water hose and ran over there.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bert extinguished the blaze and all the animals inside of the barn were accounted for and safe.<\/p>\n
Following the heroic ordeal, Goosey may be getting a companion named Lucy, the family said. KHOU 11<\/p>\n
\u201cIf I hadn\u2019t been woken up, I think in a couple more minutes, it would have been \u2026 out of control,\u201d Bert said.<\/p>\n
Bert\u2019s wife Chelsea never wanted a webbed-foot friend but the couple\u2019s daughter Elaine fell in love with Goosey when they went to a \u201chug a goose\u201d event four months ago.<\/p>\n
Goosey sounded the alarm and woke his owner, Bert Gerber, after the blaze broke up. KHOU 11<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we got him, he was so small and he was just so fluffy,\u201d young Elaine said.\u00a0\u201cWhen I got to pet his head, he would just rest his head on my arm and it just made me tear up.\u201d<\/p>\n
Elaine Gerber said Goosey made her \u201ctear up\u201d when she first met him four months ago. KHOU 11<\/p>\n
The family said they are even considering a fellow webbed-foot companion \u2014 a Lucy for Goosey, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd then we\u2019re going to get babies.
