Paul Campbell, a second-grade teacher at Brinker Elementary, has been charged with multiple counts of child sex abuse.<\/p>\n

PLANO, Texas \u2014 Paul Campbell, a former Plano ISD second-grade teacher jailed on four counts of child sex abuse<\/a>, is seeking a reduction in his bond, which his lawyer argues is “excessive.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Campbell is currently jailed on one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14 and three counts of indecency with a child, police say.<\/p>\n

Officers arrested 64-year-old Paul Campbell, a second-grade teacher at Brinker Elementary School, on a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child. Later, Plano police obtained three new warrants against Paul Campbell as additional children disclosed abuse following Campbell’s arrest.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Now, Campbell’s lawyer, Todd Shapiro, has filed a motion to reduce Campbell’s bond, which he alleges is “excessive.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

For the continuous sexual abuse of a child charge, which was brought after an 8-year-old student reported abuse to school officials,<\/a> Campbell’s attorney is seeking a reduction in the bond amount from $1 million to $250,000, according to the filing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For each of the three counts of indecency with a child, Campbell is seeking a reduction in bond from $500,000 to $100,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the filing, Campbell’s lawyer argues the bond is excessive and that the defendant has tried, both individually and with the help of friends, to post bond but has been unsuccessful. The filing also points out that no indictment has been presented by the Grand Jury for any of the charges Campbell was arrested for.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Campbell had been with the district for more than 28 years before his arrest. According to newly released arrest affidavits, the alleged abuse occurred multiple times and involved multiple students.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a statement, Plano ISD called the alleged conduct reprehensible and said it is inconsistent with the district’s values, standards and expectations.<\/p>\n

“Any conduct that threatens student safety is unacceptable, and the district will respond promptly and decisively whenever allegations of this nature are reported,” the district said. “The additional charges reinforce the serious nature of the allegations and the importance of allowing law enforcement to complete its investigation.
