SAN ANTONIO – A business owner at Gama Auto Service captured video of water pouring over Heliport Drive, which leads into the business.<\/p>\n
He says heavy rain also causes flooding along Heath Road. From there, the water can spill onto Dhaka View, where residents have previously documented floodwaters moving through the neighborhood.<\/p>\n
Brad Nevels, whose home has flooded before, described seeing the water move through the French Creek area.<\/p>\n
\u201cI noticed it had pushed through, through the French Creek area, through those woods, on this way,\u201d Nevels said.<\/p>\n
Nevels’ home has flooded before, with floodwaters causing at least $50,000 in damage.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis neighborhood, at least since 2020, has seen four floods,\u201d Nevels said.<\/p>\n
Nevels isn’t the only resident who has paid the price. His neighbor, Jonathan Clemena, has also spent tens of thousands of dollars on flood repairs.<\/p>\n
Residents now want to know when construction will begin on a flood mitigation project designed to help address the problem.<\/p>\n
The design was presented to the public in 2024, and construction was expected to begin in 2026. However, the project has since been postponed, with construction now set to start in 2027.<\/p>\n
Doug Rager, who has lived near French Creek for 50 years, said he is frustrated with what he describes as a lack of communication from the city.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey started off good in 2024. They did a public meeting to discuss all the details of what was going on, timeline, you know, everything,\u201d Rager said.<\/p>\n
Public Works told us there will be another public meeting to discuss the project but did not provide a date for that meeting.<\/p>\n
Residents say they want an opportunity to voice their concerns.<\/p>\n
\u201cI fear that the city might not like what we have to say,\u201d Nevels said.<\/p>\n
