{"id":405329,"date":"2026-08-13T09:02:10","date_gmt":"2026-08-13T09:02:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/405329\/"},"modified":"2026-08-13T09:02:10","modified_gmt":"2026-08-13T09:02:10","slug":"dallas-city-council-votes-in-favor-of-public-safety-bond-proposal-nbc-5-dallas-fort-worth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/405329\/","title":{"rendered":"Dallas City Council votes in favor of public safety bond proposal \u2013 NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dallas voters will see a $443 million bond proposition for public safety facilities on the November ballot.<\/p>\n<p>An 11-4 vote from Dallas City Council Wednesday night followed more than three hours of debate and a number of amendments that failed to gain majority support.<\/p>\n<p>The bond amount includes $82 million more for a new Dallas Police Academy on the UNT-Dallas campus, which voters initially approved $50 million to build in a 2024 bond.<\/p>\n<p>Latest estimates indicate an $82 million funding gap for an academy scheduled for a Sept. 3 groundbreaking and summer 2028 opening.<\/p>\n<p>The bond language also includes funding to replace Dallas Fire Station 4 at Akard and Canton in downtown, a new DPD evidence room, and funds for the relocation of 911\/ 311 and emergency operations.<\/p>\n<p>The total is a pared-down amount from a city management-recommended $960 million bond and excludes $500 million in pension obligation bonds for the Dallas Police and Fire Pension that a majority of council deemed too financially risky to present to voters.<\/p>\n<p>The bond proposal on the November 3 ballot arrives two and a half years after Dallas voters approved a $1.25 billion bond for street infrastructure improvement and city parks<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Dallas voters will see a $443 million bond proposition for public safety facilities on the November ballot.
