Dallas voters will see a $443 million bond proposition for public safety facilities on the November ballot.<\/p>\n
An 11-4 vote from Dallas City Council Wednesday night followed more than three hours of debate and a number of amendments that failed to gain majority support.<\/p>\n
The bond amount includes $82 million more for a new Dallas Police Academy on the UNT-Dallas campus, which voters initially approved $50 million to build in a 2024 bond.<\/p>\n
Latest estimates indicate an $82 million funding gap for an academy scheduled for a Sept. 3 groundbreaking and summer 2028 opening.<\/p>\n
The bond language also includes funding to replace Dallas Fire Station 4 at Akard and Canton in downtown, a new DPD evidence room, and funds for the relocation of 911\/ 311 and emergency operations.<\/p>\n
The total is a pared-down amount from a city management-recommended $960 million bond and excludes $500 million in pension obligation bonds for the Dallas Police and Fire Pension that a majority of council deemed too financially risky to present to voters.<\/p>\n
