EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/ CBS4) \u2014 Drivers frustrated by rough road conditions along Zaragoza Road between North Loop Drive and Loop 375 may be wondering when \u2014 or if \u2014 repairs are coming.<\/p>\n
Small repairs have been made so far. That stretch of Zaragoza Road is under the jurisdiction of the city of El Paso, not the Texas Department of Transportation. Because it is a city roadway, a traffic study would be needed to determine the scope of work required.<\/p>\n
City officials said the area did not qualify for the latest batch of road repairs, in part because one major factor in deciding which streets are selected is a road\u2019s Pavement Condition Index, or PCI score.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe part that we do oversee, we have had some requests for pothole maintenance, to look at the road condition and if it should be added to our resurfacing list,\u201d an official said.<\/p>\n
Officials said condition is not the only consideration. The city also looks at traffic volume, upcoming utility projects and whether nearby streets also need work.<\/p>\n
For the 2026-27 resurfacing program, the city said it has approximately $66 million set aside.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe’re looking at trying to do a minimum 37 miles per year for the next two years,\u201d an official said. \u201cWe try to go into one area and really fully utilize the contractors to get as many streets within that area done as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
Officials said roads that meet the city\u2019s criteria would ultimately be recommended to City Council for approval.<\/p>\n
