Supplies, shoes, gas and then the same list for every child in the house. It adds up quickly.

That was the practical reality behind our conversation with Martin Rocha of Bravo Auto Group at the KFOX14/CBS4 Back-to-School Expo in El Paso. Martin is part of the El Paso-based auto group, which operates Bravo Cadillac El Paso and other dealerships across Texas and New Mexico.

The annual expo took place July 25, 2026, at Bassett Place. KFOX14/CBS4 brought together local organizations and vendors offering free school supplies, family services, giveaways and information about resources available throughout the El Paso area. Bravo was among the event’s sponsors.

At Bravo’s table, the goal had grown from 600 backpacks to 700 and then to more than 800.

“The initial goal was 600. That went up to 700. So this goal this year is over 800,” Martin told us.

Then he brought the reason behind the number back to one clear sentence: “And it’s all about the kids.”

The number is impressive, but honestly, the part that caught us was how quickly one backpack became a much bigger conversation.

For a family buying supplies for four or five children, back-to-school shopping is not one purchase. It is notebooks, clothes, shoes, transportation and all the smaller items that somehow stop feeling small once they reach the register. A free backpack does not cover every expense, but it removes one real item from that list.

Martin understands that pressure as a parent.

“I’m a father of three, so I know how it is,” he said.

He also talked about the uncertainty families face as prices continue to change. Businesses cannot control the cost of gas or school supplies, but they can control how they respond when people need help. At the expo, that response was concrete: more than 800 backpacks ready to leave in the hands of local students and families.

Martin described giving back as part of Bravo’s identity rather than something separate from its everyday work.

“Bravo is all about giving back,” he said.

That message is also reflected in the company’s official community information, which describes Bravo Autos as serving multiple communities throughout the region and places a particular emphasis on helping families.

By the end of our conversation, the backpacks did feel like more than backpacks. Each one represented a shorter shopping list, one less expense and a child walking into the school year with something made for them.

For us, the story was not only the size of the giveaway. It was the practical help sitting on that table and the understanding that sometimes giving a family one useful thing at exactly the right time can go a long way.

Bravo Cadillac at the Back to School Expo at Bassett Center (Courtesy: KFOX14)

[12
138,140,139
post-405953","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-el-paso","tag-el-paso","tag-el-paso-headlines","tag-el-paso-news
["GET
