Fort Worth police said late Thursday that a man has been arrested in connection with an early morning suspected road rage shooting in which an Everman ISD employee was killed.<\/p>\n

In a social media post, officials said the 37-year-old suspect is facing a murder charge in the death of LaTaivia Davis, who was fatally shot while she was driving in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 around 6:30 a.m. The incident led to an hourslong closure of the busy interstate as the morning rush hour commute was shifting into high gear.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The I-20 lanes reopened in the afternoon following an investigation by Fort Worth<\/a> police, who have said the attack was an \u201capparent\u201d road rage shooting.<\/p>\n

According to an earlier statement from Fort Worth police spokeswoman Cynthia Wood, officers were dispatched to the 3700 block of I-20 about 6:30 a.m. after reports of a shooting<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Once there, police found Davis inside her vehicle and suffering from a gunshot wound. Witnesses told police the woman and the suspect had been traveling eastbound when the suspect pulled up and fired shots at her before fleeing the scene, Wood said.<\/p>\n

Responders attempted life-saving measures, but Davis died at the scene, Wood said.<\/p>\n

In a Thursday statement, Everman ISD spokeswoman Nikita Russell confirmed the victim had been an employee with the district.<\/p>\n

“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the employee’s family, loved ones, colleagues, students and all those impacted by this loss,” Russell said.<\/p>\n

Counseling and support resources will be available for those who need them, Russell said, and the district won’t be releasing any further information at this time.<\/p>\n

Texas Department of Transportation traffic cameras showed free-moving traffic on both sides of the roadway shortly after 1 p.m. The investigation closed parts of I-20 for about six hours.\u00a0<\/p>\n
