Lake Travis High School senior Odin Hensley has died from complications related to a medical emergency he suffered during football practice earlier this week, the district said Thursday.<\/p>\n
Superintendent Curtis Null announced Hensley’s death in a letter to families, calling it a “profound sadness” for the Lake Travis Independent School District community. The letter did not specify the exact cause of death. A district spokesperson confirmed that Hensley died overnight.<\/p>\n
According to the football program, Hensley suffered a “serious health emergency” at a practice early Monday morning. Travis County STAR Flight airlifted him to Dell Children’s Medical Center.<\/p>\n
The team canceled the remainder of Monday’s practice as a precaution after the emergency.<\/p>\n
A prayer vigil was held for Hensley at Lake Hills Church Wednesday evening. Organizers moved it off the high school campus because of the size of the response.<\/p>\n
In his letter, Null said Hensley had been part of the Lake Travis ISD community since attending Lake Pointe Elementary School and went on to become a two-sport athlete at the high school, competing in wrestling and football. Teachers and coaches described him as kind and determined, and said he was a valued teammate, classmate and friend.<\/p>\n
“His presence touched many lives, and he will be deeply missed,” Null said.<\/p>\n
The district said counselors would be available in the high school’s counseling center to support students, staff and families, with additional counselors on standby as needed.<\/p>\n
