Marian Stanko, who represents the Bexar County Republican Party, is challenging those signatures.

Stanko went to court to force a notary who works at attorney Neil Calfas’ law firm, where Wolff also works, to turn over her notary book related to the petitions. Attorney Justin Nichols said the notary handled more than 90% of Wolff’s petitions.

“Anytime somebody is running to be the top law enforcement officer in our county, you would expect that person to cross their T’s and dot their I’s and follow the law. When the notary who works for him and signed 90% of his petition comes to court and pleads the Fifth Amendment about whether or not that process was followed, that creates serious concerns for me as a citizen and a lawyer about whether not that person running for that office has behaved appropriately. That day is yet to come, but I think it’s coming really soon.” Nichols said.

So far, no evidence has been presented in court connecting Calfas’ human trafficking and prostitution arrest to the signatures that got Wolff on the ballot. No court has ruled that Wolff’s petitions are invalid. Attorneys said they are reviewing the notary records to determine what comes next.

RELATED | San Antonio attorney demanded sex in exchange for legal help, report says

Wolff works out of the same law office as Calfas, who is facing charges of solicitation of prostitution and human trafficking.

Wolff addressed the situation on social media, criticizing what he described as political opponents trying to make him “look guilty” because he practices law in the same office as Calfas, whose office was raided “yesterday.”

“I had no idea that was coming, I had no idea it was going on, because I was at the courthouse representing my clients and I learned about it along with everybody else,” Wolff said.

Wolff also referenced a Facebook comment noting that he works in the same office as Calfas.

“In that comment, she says, well gosh, that’s where Jason Wolff offices.
