Angel Wings Music will celebrate the life and legacy of Katherine \u201cKatie\u201d Elyse Passmore with its first annual Katie Fest 30 on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at Winfrey Point overlooking White Rock Lake.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Held in honor of what would have been Passmore\u2019s 30th birthday, the event will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will feature live music, food and drinks while raising funds for Angel Wings Music\u2019s music therapy programming for adults with disabilities.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Angel Wings Music was founded by Mary Markey in memory of her daughter, Katie Passmore. Born at 28 weeks, Passmore lived with disabilities and was nonverbal, but music remained a constant source of comfort and joy throughout her life.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cKatie inspired everyone,\u201d Markey said. \u201cShe\u2019s leaving behind a legacy of joy. Even if she was nonverbal, she was just joyful.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dallas yacht rock cover band Captain and Camille will perform hits from the 1970s throughout the evening. Guests can also enjoy wood-fired pizza, beer, wine and views of White Rock Lake.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Passmore\u2019s love of music inspired the creation of Angel Wings Music, a nonprofit that provides free music therapy events for adults with disabilities. During each session, participants listen, sing and move together, using music as a tool to communicate, express emotions and build social connections.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt made her smile,\u201d Markey said. \u201cFor the participants, it\u2019s a way they can get engaged even if they\u2019re nonverbal. Everybody gets a chance to participate and it brings a sense of community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Proceeds from Katie Fest 30 will support the nonprofit\u2019s music therapy programs.<\/p>\n
Katie Fest 30 will take place at Winfrey Point, 950 E. Lawther Drive. Tickets are available through Angel Wings Music<\/a>. Those unable to attend can support the organization by making a donation.
