SAN ANTONIO, Texas (KABB) \u2014 A Texas woman and her dog were killed after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a busy San Antonio roadway.<\/p>\n
The accident happened just after 11:30 a.m. Friday off Marbach Road near Military Drive.<\/p>\n
Police said the 52-year-old woman was crossing the roadway with her dog when a man in his 60s driving a Chrysler struck them. Investigators believe the woman may have entered the road from a nearby driveway or parking lot. There does not appear to be a crosswalk where she was crossing.<\/p>\n
The woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, where she was later pronounced deceased.<\/p>\n
Her dog was also badly injured. Police said an officer had to put the animal down because of the severity of its injuries.<\/p>\n
The driver remained at the scene and was not injured. Police said he appeared to have some mobility and health issues.<\/p>\n
The investigation briefly took another turn when a witness told an arriving officer that the driver might have a gun after seeing him reach underneath something inside the vehicle.<\/p>\n
Police later determined there was no gun.<\/p>\n
“It was just a passerby who thought they might have a gun,” an officer at the scene said. “No gun, no gun involved.”<\/p>\n
Police said the driver was not facing charge at this time pending the results of the investigation.<\/p>\n
Investigators were also working to obtain surveillance video from nearby businesses and had spoken with at least two witnesses who police said saw the crash.<\/p>\n
