Houston’s 2026 Pride parade is set to take place this Saturday, Aug. 15, following an initial rescheduling earlier this year and a last-minute postponement in June due to inclement weather.

The annual parade, which historically has been held in late June to coincide with Pride Month, has faced several challenges. At the beginning of this year, the event organizers, Pride Houston 365, announced that the 2026 parade and festival would take place on June 6 to not overlap with the FIFA World Cup’s seven Houston matches between June 14 and July 4.

However, when June 6 arrived, organizers held the festival as planned but had to postpone the evening parade due to “severe weather and flooding.” The new date of Aug. 15 was eventually set in the weeks following the postponement after organizers met with Houston Mayor John Whitmire’s office.

Parade details

The free parade will start at 7 p.m. Saturday in downtown Houston and will begin at the intersection of Lamar and Smith streets. According to organizers, the best viewing areas will be along Smith Street and Louisiana Street.

The stage, grandstand and bar open at 5 p.m., and organizers recommend that attendees arrive before the 7 p.m. start time.

The parade route will continue down Smith Street, turn onto Walker Street and proceed down Milam Street before concluding at Leeland Street.

Weather precautions

According to the National Weather Service’s Houston/Galveston Office, Houston is forecast to have a high temperature of 98 degrees on Saturday, with a heat index, or feels-like temperature, of up to 109.

On average, Houston temperatures in August are only slightly higher than in June. According to the weather service, Houston highs in June range from 95-101, while Houston highs in August range from 96-102.

While the hottest part of the day is typically from 3-5 p.m., Catherine Whitaker, a meteorologist with the local weather service office, told Houston Public Media on Thursday that all residents should be weather aware on Saturday.

“We will be standing by our normal heat safety tactics,” Whitaker said. “If you’re outdoors, you’re going to be staying hydrated, trying to find shade whenever you can, making sure that you’re not leaving kids or pets in vehicles that are locked … and making sure you are checking up on the elderly, the sick and kids.”

In a post on social media in early July, Pride Houston 365 announced that two cooling stations and seven water distribution stations will be set up along the parade route.

“We understand the concerns about Houston’s summer weather, and your safety remains our top priority,” Pride Houston 365 said in a statement. “Pride Houston is working closely with the City of Houston, the mayor’s office and [the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office] to prepare for a safe and successful celebration.”

People march in Houston’s Pride Parade on June 28, 2025.
