\nEboni Johnson originally thought she would transfer to a university after graduating with her associate degree in entrepreneurship <\/a>from Dallas College last May. But when she learned about the new Bachelor of Applied Science in Management<\/a> (BASM) program, she had different thoughts.<\/p>\n
The program gives students a flexible and affordable way to continue their education while benefiting from the same faculty support, campus connections and resources they\u2019ve come to value. \u00a0<\/p>\n
Almost 90 students have already enrolled with over 1,000 expressing interest.<\/p>\n
It wasn\u2019t just the time and money that convinced Johnson to continue at Dallas College. It was the quality of the education, the caring faculty and the network she has built. Johnson said her involvement in programs like the Entrepreneurship Society and SkillsUSA changed her life<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cAt Dallas College, the support is unmatched. It\u2019d be a big competition for anyone to even try,\u201d she said. \u201cThey don\u2019t just care about my academic journey; they care about my business journey.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe associate-level business courses that I took have been so beneficial,\u201d said Johnson, who runs her own esthetician business and says she\u2019s already gained a wealth of knowledge.<\/p>\n Beyond the classroom, Johnson developed leadership skills, becoming president of the Entrepreneurship Society.<\/p>\n \u201cI had a feeling in my heart that I should stay here,\u201d she said. \u201cRight before commencement, I reached out to start the process of enrolling in the bachelor\u2019s program.\u201d<\/p>\n For Octavia Kimble, earning a bachelor\u2019s degree was always in the back of her mind. She started at Dallas College in 2021 when she was in her late 30s and earned an associate degree in criminal justice<\/a>.<\/p>\n Kimble now works in school safety and crisis management at Dallas ISD and was completing a certificate in crisis intervention<\/a> when she learned about the new BASM degree.<\/p>\n \u201cI was so excited,\u201d she said. \u201cThis is perfect for me, and I\u2019m ready for it. It will open doors. I\u2019m\u00a0hoping to complete it\u00a0within 10 months. I\u2019m\u00a0so thrilled that you can\u00a0\u2018fast-track\u2019\u00a0through the courses. It\u2019s\u00a0a lifesaver for people who took an unconventional\u00a0route.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n The fully\u00a0online program allows students to complete their final 30 credit hours at their own pace. Through competency-based coursework, students can move forward by demonstrating mastery of the material.<\/p>\n For professionals like Johnson and Kimble, the degree offers an opportunity to advance their careers while continuing their educational journey at a college they already know and trust.<\/p>\n The Bachelor of Applied Science in Management<\/a> makes the fourth bachelor\u2019s degree program available at Dallas College.
