{"id":408187,"date":"2026-08-16T14:40:07","date_gmt":"2026-08-16T14:40:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/408187\/"},"modified":"2026-08-16T14:40:07","modified_gmt":"2026-08-16T14:40:07","slug":"suspect-shoots-hurts-off-duty-arlington-police-officer-in-dallas-department-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/408187\/","title":{"rendered":"Suspect shoots, hurts off-duty Arlington police officer in Dallas, department says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An off-duty officer with the <a href=\"http:\/\/cbsnews.com\/texas\/tag\/arlington-police-department\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Arlington Police Department<\/a> is in the hospital after the <a href=\"http:\/\/cbsnews.com\/texas\/tag\/dallas-police-department\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Dallas Police Department<\/a> said a known suspect <a href=\"http:\/\/cbsnews.com\/texas\/tag\/shooting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">opened fire<\/a> on the officer early Sunday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Dallas Police said it happened just before 4 a.m. along the 3100 block of South Westmoreland Road, in the southwest part of <a href=\"http:\/\/cbsnews.com\/texas\/tag\/dallas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Dallas<\/a>. The department said the suspect was <a href=\"http:\/\/cbsnews.com\/texas\/tag\/crime\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">arrested<\/a> at the scene, and that the preliminary investigation confirmed the victim was off-duty and out of jurisdiction at the time.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/cbsnews.com\/texas\/tag\/arlington\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Arlington<\/a> officer was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. As of publication, the officer was in stable condition.<\/p>\n<p>Further details were not immediately available, inclduing about what preceded the shooting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cbsnews.com\/texas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">CBS News Texas<\/a> has reached out to the Arlington Police Department for further information.
