They earned a place alongside Michelin-rated restaurants that offer fermented carrot juice and sourdough tortillas, food trucks and Mexican market serving counters.<\/p>\n<p>The list is \u201ca mosaic of great places to eat,\u201d the Times says.\u00a0\u201cWe hope it tells an expansive story about Mexican cooking in America today\u00a0\u2014 a dynamic cuisine all its own, and as American as any food.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yolanda Garcia and her late husband Julio opened Garcia\u2019s in 1962 and it\u2019s still family-run, with their four kids having taken over the reigns. It\u2019s known for serving heaping platters of chilaquiles, pork chop tacos, carne guisada and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressnews.com\/projects\/restaurants\/best-cheese-enchiladas-san-antonio-2025\/\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">the best cheese enchiladas in San Antonio<\/a>, according to San Antonio Express-News food writer Paul Stephen.<\/p>\n<p>Garcia\u2019s Mexican Food earned a Michelin recommendation in 2024, the same year it tied for San Antonio\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressnews.com\/projects\/restaurants\/best-mexican-restaurants-san-antonio-2024\/\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">best Mexican restaurant<\/a>, according to Express-News restaurant critic Mike Sutter. It nabbed the top spot on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressnews.com\/projects\/restaurants\/best-mexican-restaurants-san-antonio\/\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Sutter\u2019s 2023 rankings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGarcia\u2019s is what an idealized American diner looks like in this part of the country: housemade salsas, tortillas instead of toast and plates of nourishing food at prices that explain why some customers visit multiple times a day,\u201d New York Times food reporter Brett Anderson writes.<\/p>\n<p>Burnt Bean Co. dishes up classic barbecue alongside brisket tacos and queso mac-and-cheese.
