The closure comes months after the founders announced that the pub will have to relocate due to construction for Austin\u2019s light rail project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn such a short time, you filled these walls with friendship, joy, unforgettable games and so much love for women\u2019s sports,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DcBrqCHtYoo\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the owners wrote online.<\/a> \u201cWe\u2019re forever grateful for every cheer, every watch party and every person who walked through our doors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dig deeper<\/p>\n<p>While the location on The Drag is closing, 1972\u2019s owners assured fans that it won\u2019t be the end of the pub\u2019s story.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do not have immediate plans to relocate, but we\u2019re not ready to let go of the vision,\u201d the owners wrote. \u201cWe\u2019re open to new ideas, new possibilities and new ways to grow the 1972 Pub brand and keep building spaces where women\u2019s sports can thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The owners welcome potential collaborators to reach out with new ideas on how to continue the pub\u2019s mission.<\/p>\n<p>The background<\/p>\n<p>The sports pub first <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/austin\/south-central-austin\/business\/2025\/03\/20\/1972-atx-womens-sports-pub-now-open-on-guadalupe-street\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">opened in spring 2025<\/a> on Guadalupe Street next to The University of Texas at Austin campus. 1972 Women\u2019s Sports Pub predominantly streams women\u2019s sports, offering a communal spot for fans to gather, eat and drink. The pub features a full bar and food menu with bites like burgers, sandwiches, flatbreads and loaded fries.<\/p>\n<p>In mid-May, the owners shared that the pub\u2019s building is one of the properties being acquired through eminent domain for the transit project.
